My Favorite Genre this year

Although I have liked at least one movie in every genre we have watched this year I would have to say that my favorite is the Western. Before taking this class I had never seen a western and had a very negative opinion about them. I thouhgt that it was kind of a washed up genre that could never really be entertaining to me, but after watching My Darling Clementine and especially after watching Once Upon a Time in the West my opinon of the western totally reversed. Once Upon a Time in the West has been my favorite movie we have watched all year. I really liked how it combined sick gun slinging action with sweet characters. I have even rented two westerns outside of class since watching these movies in class.

How to lose a guy trailer

screwball comedy

We are watching the screwball comedy Bringing up Baby and I can't help but be reminded of the more recent movie, How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days. In both of the movies the main female character is a strong, pretty girl who can be a little crazy at times and the male character is dedicated to his work and kinda gets walked all over by the female character. The plot is also very similar in these movies. in both movies the girl is putting the guy through the most riduculous things and the guy keeps putting up with it because he has an alternitive motive. Although I haven't seen the end of Bringing up Baby if it continuse to follow the same general plot as How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days I think that Susan and David will end up falling for each other and living happily ever after.

Art of Film so Far

So far i have really enjoyed art of film especially the movie Citizen Kane. Going into the movie i really didn't have high expectations, mainly because it was so old and it was black and white, but after watching it I see why a lot of movie critics have ranked it as the best movie ever made. Although i don't feel strong enough about it to rate it as the best movie of all time, I thought it was a great movie. I really liked how Orson Wells fills us in on Kane's life through flashbacks and memories of his close friends. Its a great way to learn what kind of man Kane was through all these different views. For example Bernstein sees Kane as a god while Leyland ended up hating his guts. Because Wells tells the story through these different perspectives, we get the full picture of Kane as a friend and also a husband. I hope that we watch more movies like Citizen Kane and the rest of the semester continues to go great
